WINDRUSH CELEBRATIONS

22nd of June is Windrush Day, a day of commemoration for those who travelled to Britain to support in the nation's post-war reconstruction. Many, if not all of us, are familiar with the reality for Commonwealth migrants who came to England in the 1940s, especially the Windrush Scandal.

So much of the dominant understandings of Windrush focus around London and big cities across the country. Coventry and Warwickshire became the home for many of these individuals, who built our community in the face of the trials and tribulations of the time. Here at ACT, we celebrate the entire diaspora, and every year since 2019, we have welcomed you to celebrate with us.

Our Windrush Dinner & Dance has entertainment, a 3-course meal, and live music. It's a successful night of bringing the community together, and in 2022, ACT decided to add an Awards presentation to the night. Anyone can nominate someone, who has contributed to our community in some way, for an ACT Windrush Award (which includes a trophy and certificate). This has made the night truly a special occasion.

This year, alongside our Dinner & Dance, we will also be hosting a WINDRUSH 75 FESTIVAL. More information to come soon.

These events are all self-funded by the Arawak Community Trust, and although we do charge for tickets, we still work at a loss. Any donations are appreciated and can be made below, and if you're interested in sponsoring any of our events, get in touch.
